Centaur Products is proud to be a Canadian owned and operated company. Since we first opened our doors until today, we have always focused on introducing innovative products to the Canadian market, while also keeping in mind the benefits to the environment, community, athlete, and spectator.
Centaur Products was first founded in 1973 by David Wilson who wanted to start a company in gym equipment and the sports business in order to provide clients with the very best high-performance products available in the industry. Since then, Centaur Sports has grown to become Canada’s largest specialty contractor with our headquarters in Burnaby and regional offices in Calgary, Guelph, and Halifax.
In 1978, Centaur Products introduced the first ever seamless polyurethane sports surfaces in North America to the Boys and Girls Club of Vancouver. This type of sports floor is now a fixture in sports facilities across the continent.
Throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s Centaur worked closely with the human performance lab in Calgary, AB, to help design the world’s safest sports floors. In addition, Centaur was also the first to introduce FIFA testing for artificial turf fields in Canada. We continue to push the industry towards products that maximize athletic performance output and athlete safety.
In 2009, Centaur Products was honoured to be chosen to renovate and replace the seating in Vancouver’s historic theatres the Orpheum and Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
In 2010, we installed the largest continuous sport surface, covering more than 70,000 square feet, at the Richmond Olympic Oval Olympic Legacy project. This project earned the American Sports Builders Association’s (ASBA)the most Outstanding Multipurpose Facility of the Year.
In 2015, our team installed a new artificial turf surface for BC Place to be used as the host site and Championship location for the FIFA Women’s World Cup of soccer, as well as the Canada Seven’s event hosted each year. This turf field is one of the first artificial turf fields in North America to be certified by both FIFA and World Rugby for officially sanctioned international matches.
In 2018, we played a pivotal role in completing sports flooring, gymnasium equipment, and running track for the largest YMCA in the World, the Brookfield YMCA at Seton Recreation Centre located in Calgary, AB.
In 2019, Centaur Products completed work on the Willoughby Community Park artificial turf field project in Langley, BC. This artificial turf field introduced the first ever artificial turf field with EPDM-R infill granules. EPDM-R is the newest innovation in synthetic turf infill, an economical, safer alternative to traditional crumb rubber while still maintaining top notch performance.
